I realized that I haven't posted in quite a bit of time. I've been so busy and I have so much to post, but I just haven't been here, so I'm super sorry! I don't want to take too long writing this introduction, so we're just going to skip to what I want to share with you today!
A few weeks ago, my lovely Chamber Choir family had three festivals in one week! On the Tuesday of that week, we had two in one day. (Like I said, I've been busy.) And that's what I want to talk about here. (Not that the Friday one wasn't awesome or important, I just have more to share about the Tuesday ones and so that's what I'm here to chat about.)
The first one of the day was in Fallbrook at their local high school where we performed in a SCVA choral performance and sight reading festival. We'd worked real hard perfecting our festival set and that day was the first time we'd performed the full thing outside of a casual setting. Additionally, this was our very first sight reading festival we'd ever participated, so it was pretty crazy.
We performed onstage, had our adjudicator work with us for about ten minutes, and then did the sight reading portion of our festival backstage right after. Speaking for myself, it wasn't our best performance, but we weren't the worst. Our sight reading wasn't too shabby either, so I was thinking that we'd done our best for the time being and that's all that mattered.
After the festival was over, we hopped onto the bus to go grab lunch, and before we got off to get food our director stood at the front of the bus. He talked about how proud he was of us and all that jazz and then got ready to announce what we had placed in the festival. All of the students on the bus rushed to pull out their phones and begin recording. The split second before he announced it, he smiled. We knew it was going to be good.
"You placed Double Superior," he proclaimed with a big smile on his face.
We all cheered, the bus roaring. This was the best we had ever done. The best we had ever placed in anything. It was truly an honor. That award meant that we placed a Superior in performance and Superior in sight reading, which is quite a big deal.
Then that night, we had our second performance of the day. We performed with the rest of the choir and vocal departments from other schools in our school district at the District Choral Concert that night.
What was so spectacular about that night was that our choir could finally prove that Trabuco Hills' vocal department is real and actually is something. That we're working hard and placing high and "winning." Our choral department used to be nothing. We were nothing. But now we could prove that we're something. That we're succeeding. And that was SO worth it.
I could go into more detail, but this happened a few weeks ago and I have much more to write for future posts, so I will see you next time.
Much Love,
Delaney Miller
