What's worship?
Google defines worship as "the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for [God]."
This is a very vague definition. It doesn't come with instructions, it doesn't give you any details, it's very general. I kind of like that. I wanted to explain in this post that worship isn't just singing praise to God. I wanted to explain that there's so much more.
Being in the band at my church's student ministries program has really showed me that there is so much more to worship than just playing some sick jams. I mean, don't get me wrong, we have the coolest music and I love all of the songs we play, but sometimes I forget to remind myself that I am not performing, I'm worshiping. It's not for an audience, I'm a vessel for the congregation of the church. If people aren't raising their hands or jumping, I'm not doing anything wrong, God's just moving in their hearts in a different way.
Growing up, they called us the "Worship Team" which made me feel super awesome because I got to be apart of something great. The older I got though, I realized that the term "Worship Team" could apply to so many other things. I mean, if prayer is a form of worship, couldn't the "Prayer Team" be apart of the "Worship Team?" And same with "Tech Team," couldn't they also be called "Worship Team?" And after a long while of thinking, I came to the conclusion that really we all were apart of this so called "Worship Team!" If all of us were serving together and using our gifts to glorify God, then there wasn't any reason why we all couldn't be considered apart of the team.
I love that everyone is gifted in so many different ways because it shows that God connects with everyone uniquely. Since anyone is capable of worship, there are so many varieties when it comes to how folks worship. Whether you worship best in prayer or in service or onstage or offstage, it's so special.
Much Love,
