sharing my faith in the choir room

chamber choir class 17/18

Yeah, yeah, I know, you're probably sick of hearing about my choir. Too bad. These folks are some of the coolest humans I know, and I'm being 100% honest when I say that.

Friday after school this past week, someone started playing the song "This Is Amazing Grace" by Phil Wickham on the speakers in the choir room.

My immediate response was, "Oh! I love that song!"

I say my "immediate response" because normally I'm not one to publicly proclaim my faith in Jesus. Honestly, if I had been anywhere else, I probably would have bopped along to the music, but I would have never said anything. This was interesting because I didn't even give myself enough time to process that it was a Christian song and I was at a public school with people I had never talked about my faith with.

What made this experience even radder was that I walked over and was asked, "What other Christian songs do you like listening to?"

Just by making an additional comment, a group formed and we began talking about our faith and what we believe in and what we've seen Jesus do. One boy talked about an encounter he'd had with Jesus at Forest Home. Another boy talked about this realization moment he'd had. One of my friends who'd walked out of our teachers office to grab her music stopped and started jamming to "Oceans" by Hillsong when that was playing.

I'm sharing this with you all because God gave me an opportunity to share my faith and this was one of the few times where fear didn't get in the way. I was able to have this awesome conversation about God and what we've seen him do with some other students at my new public high school. Out of all places and all times, I would have never expected God to use me then and there. It's moments like these where I'm learning to listen to God rather than listen to fear. If I hadn't said anything, I don't think we would have all started talking about the types of Christian music we listen to or the different camps and conferences we've been to or how we've seen God move.

With that, if you're feeling the Lord tug on your heart, follow Him. It will likely lead to a greater outcome than you would've predicted.

Much Love,

Delaney Miller
